WINNERS ANNOUNCED
Congrats LEAH & MICHAEL!
We have just announced the winners of the big wedding at the Martha Stewart Weddings Popup Wedding Chapel… Leah and Michael! They’ll be getting married in the chapel during wedding week, and will be treated to an unbelievable wedding designed by the staff at Martha Stewart Weddings and featuring vendors from the Wedding Library, along with a free honeymoon at Sandals Resorts!

Want to know more about Leah & Michael? Read their application below and see why we chose them!
“First, I must mention that we were officially married on January 25th,
2009 in Victoria, BC Canada. The reason I would like to get “married” in the pop-up Chapel is that, due to the recession, only 2 of Michael’s close friends were able to attend our Canadian wedding. We sent out invitations to all of his friends, and sadly, all but two were returned with a “cannot make it, with regrets.” I know
that, as much as the heart of a 6″2 guitar maven man’s heart can be broken,
his was. And yet, so kindly, he never said a word, especially knowing how
important it was to me that my 92 year old Grampa be able to attend, and we
continued on with our wedding plans, in my home town, where only I was
surrounded by both friends and family.

Michael is a Brooklyn native. It is in Greenpoint where we first dated, he
living on Eagle street, and I at 99 Sutton. In fact, our first official
dinner date took place at Christina’s Polish restaurant on Manhattan Ave.,
followed by dessert at DuMont, then by whiskey and dice at Matchless, and
ending at Enid’s, much too late! This was October 2005. On August 5th, 2006,
Michael first told me he loved me (it took the man a while to get out those
words!!) on North 15th street, outside the Church there. In March 2008, when
he proposed, he took me, blindfolded, back to that same spot.
Shortly after returning home to New York from our wedding in Canada, both of
us lost our jobs. Only Michael has managed to find something yet, and at
less than half the pay. But, he is supporting us as best he can, and always
finds a way for us to have a nice date– we’ve become experts on cheap happy
hours, free movies, and nice walks– so that we can enjoy a little of that
newly wed feeling in these tough times. We have not yet been able to afford
a honeymoon.

So, why do I want to get married in the pop-up Chapel? It would fill my
heart with joy to be able to SURPRISE Michael with a wedding in front of 20
of HIS friends! I know that he’d love to celebrate in his hometown, surrounded by his comrades, about whom he cares so much. This certainly would not be about presents nor me showing off a white dress, but about sharing our love with and having a whole bunch of fun with those who couldn’t make it the first time, due to
the economy.
Oh, and it’d also be about seeing the look on Michael’s face!
Thanks for listening. This made me smile to write, even if we are not
chosen.
Best,
Leah
